The Round Table is pleased to have participated in the update of this plan. Responding to climate change, maintaining the health of our native species, and reducing our ecological footprint will all be crucial to a sustainable future for South Australia. We congratulate the Government for committing to these important, and ambitious targets. The significant challenge ahead of us now is to take action to meet the targets.

 The Plan   Governance Arrangements

Executive Committee of Cabinet

The Executive Committee of Cabinet (ExComm) oversees the implementation of SASP throughout the Government and into the community. In particular, it concentrates on ensuring that State Government agencies are pursuing plan targets in a collaborative, focused and innovative way. The plan is the main instrument for determining strategic priorities for agencies and is an important element of performance assessment for chief executives.

Chaired by Premier Mike Rann, the committee provides central co-ordination and leadership to government departments in their efforts to achieve the Strategic Plan targets. Other Cabinet members on the committee are Deputy Premier Kevin Foley, the Hon Patrick Conlon, and the Hon Jane Lomax-Smith.  There is a yearly rotation of one extra Minister with the Hon Jay Weatherill currently in the position.

Mr Bruce Carter, Member of the Economic Development Board and Monsignor David Cappo, chair of the Social Inclusion Board, serve on the Executive Committee of Cabinet as independent advisors.

South Australia's Strategic Plan Audit Committee

The Audit Committee is an independent body whose primary functions are to provide advice and recommendations to the Executive Committee of Cabinet (ExComm) on the interpretation of the targets, on the appropriate indicators and data sources to use in measuring progress against the targets and on the starting point, or ‘baseline’, for measurement.

The Audit Committee responds to proposals from government agencies on issues of interpretation and data sources rather than developing its own. The Audit Committee has met at least once every quarter since August 2004. It considers detailed reports from government agencies and also interviews agency representatives where necessary.

The Audit Committee does not comment on government strategies nor does it make recommendations on policies in pursuit of the targets. Membership of the Audit Committee includes one non-government representative from each of the South Australian Government’s major advisory boards.
